Episode 4: Escape New Haven- Throwing Money At Problems

Ethan Rodriguez-Torrent and Max Sutter are the co-founders of Escape New Haven Connecticut’s newest attraction. Imagine you and your friends are locked in a room and the only way out is to solve the puzzles that lie within the room. Some may think that this doesn’t sounds fun but for a growing number of people this is a perfect weekend night.

Escape rooms are a growing trend and Ethan and Max have leveraged their passion for games and puzzles to bring a new fun time to New Haven.  Located at 111 Whitney Avenue in New Haven, Escape New Haven has only a 20-30% success rate.  Since it wouldn’t be a good business model to not let people out of the rooms if they can’t figure out the puzzles, you only have 60 minutes to solve the puzzles and escape.

The story of how Ethan and Max went from their beta test to pissing off their condo association to launching is one that highlights a lot of issues startups face.  They were able to overcome many of them while also creating an experience that has them booked 2-3 weeks out and with not signs of slowing.

Listen to find out why if you don’t book in advance it can really put a damper on a date night!
